WORKPLACE DRUG TESTING

In recent times, more and more employers have opted to implement ‘drug free work place’ policies. This gives the employer the assurance that none of their employees are abusing drugs or alcohol either at home or on the job.
Workplace drug testing is conducted in a variety of ways depending on the company. Some employers choose to have a single pre-employment drug test and then have all employees submit to an annual drug test. Other employers choose to have random workplace drug testing either at their facility or by sending employees to a local laboratory for testing.
Drug and alcohol abuse by employees cost employers and their businesses millions of dollars each year in stolen equipment, liability lawsuits, loss of productivity, and other unfortunate incidents. Workplace drug testing is often the only way to stop the chain of disaster before it begins.
Most employees do not mind submitting for a drug test as they are aware it is, in part, for their own protection. Knowing that all employees must participate in workplace drug tests reassures other employees and makes them more likely to comply as well. Some employers will not allow a person to work if they have not been drug tested- (this is a major facet of a drug free workplace)
Workplace drug testing benefits employees and employers alike, making the job site a safer and more enjoyable place to work.
