Lab Testing (or blood testing) is something every human on earth will need at some point in their lives. Lab testing has a myriad of uses in diagnosing major illness as well as minor health annoyances. Simple lab testing can tell us so much about our bodies, from our HIV status to how well our liver and kidneys are functioning. Laboratory testing is an area in which great strides have been made for technological advancements and new methods of testing. Every day, new methodologies are being created by Chemists, Microbiologists, Physicians and those who have taken on the challenge of decoding the human body and its many complex mysteries.
Through lab testing, women learn they are pregnant; individuals or couples achieve the confidence that comes with knowing their HIV status; People with hepatitis can monitor their disease to ensure successful treatment; Athletes can learn about possible electrolyte or hormone imbalances; No matter what your health concerns are, there is always a wealth of information that can be accessed through simple lab tests.
Contrary to popular belief, Lab tests are not always performed through blood; urine, skin, hair, nail and mucous specimens are also common specimens used for lab testing. For example, a respiratory culture uses a swab (which is similar in appearance to an ear cleaning swab) to take a mucous sample from the upper portion of the respiratory system.
Lab testing is an important and necessary part of life for all people who are able to take control their lives and take responsibility for their personal health and well-being.
